a city, our staff negotiates with the headquarters hotel to block a
sufficient number of guest rooms for attendees. We do this in order to
provide safe and secure accommodations, while enjoying the hospitality
of quality, upscale lodging. Keep in mind that if ACEI does not fill
the contractual obligations with the headquarters hotel, the
Association will be required to pay significant financial penalties.
The Westin Michigan Avenue is located along the "Magnificent Mile" on North Michigan Avenue, right next to the John Hancock Building. Within a 4 block radius of the hotel, you can find: over 40 restaurants and taverns, Bloomingdales and The Shops at 900 N. Michigan Avenue (70+ stores), Pottery Barn, Borders Books, Nieman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue in Chicago Place Shopping Center (30+ stores and food court), and the Water Tower Building and Observatory which houses the Chicago Tourism Office.

Helpful Travel Planning Information:
**those who drive might find it convenient to park their cars at O'Hare in a remote lot and take public transportation to downtown for the meeting;
**those who fly might find it convenient (and perhaps cheaper) to fly to Milwaukee and taking Amtrak, which has a station quite close to the Milwaukee airport, to Chicago.
**some of those who drive might find it convenient to drive to the Amtrak station near the Milwaukee airport, leave the car there, and take Amtrak to Chicago.
For most of the Conference, business attire is appropriate. Otherwise in Chicago, casual and comfortable clothing is recommended. Some restaurants may require a jacket and tie. If you plan to go on a tour, bring along a pair of good walking shoes and dress in layers.
The weather in Chicago in late March can tend to be quite cold at times. Normal average temperatures range from 32/47° F. Bring a variety of clothes if you plan to sightsee during your stay. Evenings tend to be very cool; bring a warm coat, hat and gloves and rain showers can also be expected.

What your colleagues
say about the ACEI Annual Conference:
This was my first ACEI Conference. Although I have
attended and presented at many conferences over the years, I cannot
believe I have missed ACEI until now.
This conference had something for everyone - classroom teachers,
teacher educators, and pre-school program people that covered a myriad
of interesting topics. The presenters were engaging and I often found
more than 2-3 sessions to go to for each time frame. I met some great
colleagues, and even someone I knew long ago!
I think the ACEI Conference is an undiscovered treasure. Thank you all
for your warm welcome, engaging conversations, and hard work. I look
forward to many opportunities to work together in the future.
A terrific way to "sell" what ACEI does internationally. It was a great
first experience for me.
Bravo! Thank you for a fantastic and relevant conference!
This was my first year and I felt most comfortable because people were
friendly and went out of their way to help you.
I am so glad I came and convinced my friends to come too!
